Debbie’s primary experience is in association management and membership strategy. She directed membership marketing for the National Council of Teachers of English with 25,000 members, where she reversed a 10-year decline in membership. Prior to that, she worked for the American Chemical Society (ACS) serving their 150,000 members. While at ACS, Debbie’s initiatives spearheaded the organization’s highest recorded membership count. Her expertise is in growing and retaining membership and communicating the value provided through programs, content, and meetings. However, her passion is in improving business process and ROI.
In cooperation with ACS colleagues, Debbie initiated changes that allowed members to renew without requesting and waiting for a forgotten password — the result of which was a 13% increase in online renewals. Other initiatives of note included but were not limited to: webinar registrants became members without leaving the original application; meeting attendees became members and took the member discount on registration at the time of their registration in a single transaction; gift memberships were purchased with online gift cards; and marketing staff made use of a data cube to produce campaign result analytics. Debbie also managed international exhibits, produced the first exhibit booth integrating 13 ACS sub-brands and programs, created new digital member benefits, and launched the ACS Online Store. She also served on platform selection and working groups for member directory, business intelligence, enterprise email, online community, international payment portal, and website user experience.
Debbie is a graduate of Chatham College, where she studied English and Latin. She has three sons and lives with her husband, Mike, in Chevy Chase, MD.
