Debbie has come to Achurch Consulting as a Membership and Meetings optimization expert. Her primary experience is in association management and membership strategy – most recently exemplified by her role directing membership marketing for the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). It is there she reversed a 10-year decline in membership of its 25,000 members.
Prior to that, Debbie worked the bulk of her career for the American Chemical Society (ACS). Her expertise in growing and retaining membership was highlighted by her efforts spearheading the organization’s highest recorded membership count at 150,000 members. She successfully communicated the organization’s value through progressive meetings, programs, and content. Her passion is in improving business processes and ROI.
In cooperation with ACS colleagues, Debbie initiated changes that resulted in a 13% increase in online renewals. Other revenue increasing initiatives of note included: webinar registrants and meeting attendees being able to automatically opt in to membership and facilitating easy single transaction meeting member discounts and registrations. She also spearheaded the purchasing of gift memberships online and facilitating a data cube for marketing staff to produce campaign result analytics. Debbie also managed international exhibits including producing the first exhibit booth integrating 13 ACS sub-brands and programs. She created new digital member benefits and launched the ACS Online Store. She also served on platform selection and working groups for various member and meeting centered initiatives.
Debbie is a graduate of Chatham College, where she studied English and Latin. She has three sons and lives with her husband, in Chevy Chase, MD.
